Here's an interesting take on a book review book trailer....

Hey all! I see that I mistakenly talked about a book last week and then deleted the book trailer! Oops! I'll remedy that, but first I wanted to show you this one for younger aged children. The book is called Nick and Tesla's High Voltage Danger Lab. It's actually the beginning of a series, Nick and Tesla, where the kids do science experiments to figure mysteries out and the directions are included in the book so you can do the same experiments at home. My youngest son and I saw a review of these books on Kelly and Michael and thought they looked really fun! Now the library has them to check out!
Since, across Iowa, we are trying to include more science and technology into our curriculum, I thought I'd include this new series here. Check it out and see what you think!

I have a Book Trailer to Share with you....

You may remember me talking about the book, This is What Happy Looks Like, by Jennifer Smith. I read it on a recommendation from a friend who read it because the cover was yellow and that was happy.:) A really great book nonetheless! Her new one, The Geography of You and Me looks just as good....

Also, check out her other title, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight!

From Our Recipe Box to Yours....

Since I am headed out on vacation and we are camping, I thought I'd include some more camping recipes.
This campfire pizza I found at http://www.cafemom.com/group/7446/forums/read/18365631/Camp_Fire_Pizza  looked intriguing...

Camp Fire Pizza!

canned pizza dough (in refrigerator section)
pizza sauce
mozzarella cheese
Your families favorite toppings!
Dried Italian seasoning and a dash of salt and pepper

Roll out pizza dough to form a rectangle. Spread pizza sauce over top. Top with cheese, additional toppings, and add seasoning. Roll pizza up to form a log and tuck edges in. Wrap in thick foil. Place in freezer until ready for your camping trip. Place in cooler or set out until almost thawed. Place pizza log, still in its foil on hot grill or fire pit. Cook for about 15 minutes flipping over and cook an additional 10-15 minutes. Slice pizza for everyone to eat!

Recently, while camping, a friend of mine made a yummy cobbler. It was so easy; just 1 can of pie filling, 1 cake mix and a stick of butter! She baked it in a crock pot for 4 hours, but this could so easily be done in a dutch oven!! And it was sooo good with homemade ice cream!!!

I LOVE camping!:)

What have you been reading?...

I haven't checked in in a while and I find myself wondering what everyone has been reading this wet, wet summer? I just finished reading one of my all time favorite authors, Laurell K. Hamilton. I read A Shiver of Light, the newest installment of the Meredith Gentry faeries series. I was quite excited because I wasn't sure she was even going to write anymore for this particular series.
It had been awhile since I'd read a novel about faeries, but I soon got back into the swing of things and remembered all of my favorite characters, from the Queen's Darkness to the Killing Frost, Galen the Green Knight and everyone in between. However, as I kept reading, I was thinking to myself, "This book is quite introspective." She, Merry Gentry, Princess Meredith of Faerie,  just kept talking about love, all kinds of love, and how love conquers all, and how she is just so tired of worrying about her loves...yada yada yada. I know she just had triplets, and having babies changes you, but there was a lot of crying and loving everybody. In previous books, I would have told you that Laurell K. Hamilton, as an author was quite dark and edgey as a writer. And I liked that! No, I loved that! This one, still a revisiting of everything I love about her characters, felt too warm and fuzzy for my tastes. Love's true kiss and all that. So, if you are looking for something a bit softer than her previous style and love the fantasy world of faeries, this is one worth reading. Even as continuation of a series, it's a goody. But, I missed the darkness and edginess of her previous stories. Tell my what you think...

4th of July Strawberries
Submitted by Mindy ~ The Sisters Cafe

Strawberries, washed and dried
White chocolate
Blue sugar, edible glitter, or sprinkles (blue sugar is shown in the picture)
Place blue sugar in a bowl.  In a separate bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave on 50% power for two minutes.  Stir until the bowl is no longer warm.  Then microwave for 30 second intervals at 50% power, stirring after each, until the chocolate is completely melted. Dip the lower two thirds of the strawberries in the melted white chocolate.  Then, dip the lower third of the strawberries in the blue sugar or spoon it onto the strawberry.  Place on wax paper or Silpat until completely cool.
